LO Series - LaserScan 2D/3D

Laser Perforation Model LaserScan 2D/3D

From straight lines to any shape you can draw

Spark Machinery laser systems are engineered to microperforate continuously moving films with high-precision CO₂ laser sources. The same technology can also cut, pre-cut and score the film. Scoring weakens the material in a controlled way without perforating it, which is how easy-opening solutions are made.

With precise microperforations, laser technology is widely used in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP). The holes regulate airflow and gas exchange through the film, extending shelf life and preserving product quality.

A scanning laser, not only machine direction

LaserOne Line and LaserOne Track perforate continuous lines in machine direction. LaserOne Scan goes further: galvanometric mirrors move the beam freely inside a working field, so the laser can work across the web and draw whatever the recipe describes. Cross-web perforation lines, holes arranged in circles or grids, custom drawings and cross pre-cuts for easy opening all come from the same machine.

LaserOne Scan is one model in two configurations. The 2D version uses two galvo axes and is the choice for precision and speed. The 3D version adds a third axis that drives the focus, so it can cover much larger areas.

Functioning of LaserScan 2D/3D model

How it works

The CO₂ laser source emits light pulses at a predetermined frequency. A beam expander collimates and widens the beam, two galvo mirrors steer it along the X and Y axes, and a focusing lens concentrates it onto a small, precisely defined area of the moving film. In the 3D version, a motorised Z axis moves the focus as the beam travels across the field. The energy of the beam sublimates the material, opening a clean microperforation with no contact and no tool wear.

Integration

LaserOne Scan is designed as a unit to be integrated into film converting lines such as slitter-rewinders, extruders, printing machines and rewinders.

Key features

2-axis galvo scanner (2D)

Two galvanometric mirrors steer the beam along X and Y inside fields from 50 × 50 to 300 × 300 mm. Compact fields keep the spot small: holes from 60 µm on 50 × 50 mm and from 100 µm on larger fields, at speeds of up to 400 m/min.

3-axis galvo scanner (3D)

A third, motorised axis moves the focus while the beam travels, so the spot stays focused across working areas up to 1,800 × 1,800 mm. Combined with machine vision, focusing is fully automatic.

Automation

Patterns, hole sizes and laser parameters are stored in recipes, so a new job starts in minutes. The software controls every head independently and corrects the holes automatically.

Camera-based quality control (optional)

A vision system inspects the holes in real time, measuring free area, deviation from the theoretical diameter and the melting ring. When it finds a deviation, it adjusts laser power and pulse duration, and on 3D also the focus, without stopping production. A quality report is saved for each reel.

Industry 4.0 and remote support

Built for Industry 4.0, the machine is managed from a touch-screen panel where your operators store every perforation parameter as a recipe, and it connects to your factory systems to exchange production data with your MES or ERP. Through remote assistance our technicians check parameters, diagnose faults and update the software without waiting for a site visit, and support your team live during commissioning or when a new recipe is set up.

Made for modified atmosphere packaging

Fresh produce keeps breathing after harvest. Micro-perforation lets packaging exchange a controlled amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide, so the atmosphere inside stays balanced and shelf life gets longer.

Advantages & Benefits

Cross-web capability

Beyond Machine Direction

X and Y galvo mirrors move the beam freely inside the working field, so the laser works across the web as well as along it.

Precision & speed (2D)

Smallest Holes, Highest Speed

The 2D configuration opens holes from 60 µm on a 50 × 50 mm field and reaches up to 400 m/min*, the fastest in the Spark laser range.

Large format (3D)

Automatic Focus up to 1,800 mm

A motorised Z axis keeps the beam in focus across working areas up to 1,800 × 1,800 mm, fully automatic with machine vision.
