Spark Machinery and the Tuscany Region Grants: Investing in Global Growth and Innovation

At Spark Machinery, we have always believed that building better machines is only half the work. Reaching the right markets and continuously pushing the boundaries of what our technology can do is just as important. That is why we are proud to announce our participation in two funding programs supported by the Regione Toscana: the Internazionalizzazione grant and the InnovAction project.

Growing Our Global Presence: The Internazionalizzazione Grant

The Internazionalizzazione (Internationalisation) Program supports Tuscan companies in expanding their reach beyond national borders — and for Spark Machinery, this represents a significant step forward in how we communicate with the global packaging industry.

With this grant, we are investing in a comprehensive set of initiatives designed to make Spark Machinery more visible, more accessible, and more competitive on the international stage:

Website translation into 7 languages. Our website is fully translated into English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Turkish and Russian — ensuring that prospects and customers across our key markets can discover our machines, understand our technology, and get in touch with us in their own language.

Strengthened digital presence. We are investing in our overall online visibility and communication, building a digital footprint that better reflects the quality and depth of what Spark Machinery offers — from updated company profiles on international B2B platforms to a more structured and accessible web presence.

Publications on international trade magazines. We are expanding our presence in the specialist press — reaching decision-makers in the flexible packaging, food packaging, and film converting sectors through the publications they trust.

Participation in international trade fairs. Being present where the industry meets is central to our international strategy. We are actively planning our participation in major global events — as we did in K 2025, one of the world's leading exhibitions for plastics and rubber — to showcase our technology, connect with new markets, and strengthen relationships with existing partners and customers worldwide.

Together, these initiatives mark a new chapter in how Spark Machinery engages with the global market. Our machines have always been exported worldwide — now our communication will match that ambition.

Pushing the Technology Forward: The Innovaction Grant

The Innovaction program funds research and development projects by Tuscan companies — and Spark Machinery is using this opportunity to advance one of the most exciting areas of our laser perforation technology.

We are developing an integrated camera-based inspection system for laser perforation. This system will allow real-time, in-line quality control of perforation patterns directly during production — automatically detecting anomalies in hole size, shape, pitch, or density without stopping the line. Critically, the system does not only detect deviations: it automatically corrects laser parameters in response, adjusting settings in real time to maintain consistent hole quality and pattern geometry throughout the entire production run.

For our customers, this means:

  • Consistent perforation quality across the entire film web, verified and actively maintained at production speed

  • Automatic parameter correction — when the system detects drift or deviation, it self-adjusts without operator intervention, ensuring the perforation pattern stays on spec from the first meter to the last

  • Immediate detection of out-of-spec holes, reducing waste and preventing defective material from reaching downstream processes or end customers

  • Reduced reliance on manual inspection, freeing operators and quality teams to focus on higher-value tasks

This project positions Spark Machinery at the intersection of precision laser technology and Industry 4.0 — bringing smart manufacturing capabilities to a sector where quality control has historically depended on sampling and manual checks.

The "Spark International Strategy" project, carried out with funding from the Regione Toscana under the program "PR FESR 2021-2027 Azione 1.3.1 — Bando Internazionalizzazione 2025", involved a total investment of €65,811.28, of which €29,482.67 was provided as a non-repayable grant. The investment encompassed a set of activities aimed at supporting the company's internationalisation journey and strengthening its competitive positioning in foreign markets, particularly outside the EU. The centrepiece of the program was participation in the international trade fair K 2025 in Düsseldorf.

The "InnovAction" project, carried out with funding from the Regione Toscana PR FESR 2021-2027 — Bando Impresa Digitale 2025, involved a total investment of €75,500.00, of which €44,500.00 was provided as a non-repayable grant. The project made it possible to build an integrated technological ecosystem in which sensors, image acquisition devices, and software modules work in synergy, generating a continuous data flow that supports quality control and the optimization of production performance.
